There will be black belt testing at Rohai Dojo in Berkeley this coming Thursday, September 23, beginning at 6 pm. Grandmaster Quynh Ngo, head of Cuong Nhu, will administer the test. Spectators are welcome. Rohai Dojo is located at 1819 San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley, 1.5 blocks north of University Avenue. If you’re driving from Redwood Dojo or vicinity, either of these routes will work:

1) take 580 west to 80 east, exit at University Avenue, turn left at San Pablo Avenue and watch for the dojo on your right between Hearst and Delaware, just past the Midas Muffler shop.

Or, 2) Take highway 13 to Ashby Avenue, follow Ashby west all the way to San Pablo Avenue, turn right, and when you cross University Ave, look for the dojo on your right, just past the Midas Muffler shop.

An off-street parking lot is available, but is likely to be full for the test. Try to arrive early!

Redwood Dojo’s 7 to 8:30 p.m. adult class will not meet on the 23rd, so members can attend and watch the test. Brown belts & above should be in uniform and bring sparring gear, in case there’s an opportunity to spar with the test candidates. Uniforms are optional for other spectators.

West Coast Training Camp is this weekend! If you haven’t signed up, please do so ASAP. You’ll need to contact the host, Rohai Dojo, right away to ensure they order you a lunch for Saturday (not to mention a cookie for the official Cookie Break- see schedule). This is a once-a-year event, not to be missed! Download the flyer to see the impressive list of instructors who are traveling long distances to offer this training opportunity to Bay Area students. (See the widget at right, for flyers and registration forms.)

SATURDAY CLASS STUDENTS PLEASE NOTE: We’ll be at West Coast Training Camp this weekend, so no class at Redwood Dojo. See you at Alameda High School gym at 9 am sharp!
