Many of you remember last year at this time: We were preparing for a Redwood Dojo demonstration and holiday party for students, family and friends. We had good food, a great demonstration (including board-breaking) and even a raffle. It was so much fun, in fact, we decided to make it an annual event. This year we weren’t able to secure a December party date, due to facility rentals—so we’re going to make it a New Year’s Celebration instead.

Mark your calendar and save this date: Sunday, January 9, 2011. Redwood Dojo is going to kick off the new year in style, with:

A free “New Year’s Resolution” cardio workout for adults and teens. This fun, music-based “Cardio-Martial-Arts” workout will be open to the public—in fact, we’d love to see some new faces, as well as parents and old friends.

An all-ranks, all-ages demonstration by Redwood Dojo students, giving everyone a chance to show their skills for family and community.

Refreshments and potluck snacks to enjoy throughout the festivities.

Sign up for the student demonstration. Every Redwood Dojo student is welcome and encouraged to take part. Each student will have a chance to perform with a group, to show off some of the skills they are mastering in class. The demo will include intermediate to advanced students showing board breaking, mat work, and weapons; and black belt self-defense demonstrations by members of the teen and adult classes.

Please indicate your desire to take part in the demonstration by signing and returning a permission slip (available from Sensei Didi). (Adults: Just tell the instructor at your next class that you plan to take part.)

More details to come—including the exact times for events. If you have a preference for certain times, please let the instructor know ASAP. If you have some great ideas for the demo, the party or the cardio workout, let us know that as well!
